Mexican National Who Shot Turkish Tourist in Bali is Member of Armed Gang

Team Webmaster : Denpasar: Badung Police are hunting for a foreign national (WNA) from Mexico who is suspected of shooting Turkish citizen Turan Mehmet, 30, at the Palm House Villa in Mengwi, Badung, Bali.

Badung Police Chief AKBP Teguh Priyo Wasono said the Mexican national who is still on the run is Sicairos Valdes Roberto, 27.

AKBP Teguh explained that the alleged perpetrator is part of an armed gang from Mexico who attempted to carry out a premeditated murder of a Turkish citizen with the motive of taking possession of the victim’s property.

It was also mentioned that three other suspected perpetrators who had been arrested by the Badung Police were Aramburo Contreras Jose Alfonso, 32, Mayorquin Eacobedo Juan Antonio, 24, and Deraz Gonzalez Victor Eduardo, 36.

Photos of Sicairos Valdes Roberto, he said, had been distributed and included in the wanted list (DPO). The police have also asked immigration to include the perpetrators in the ban list.

“We have coordinated with immigration for further bans, both at the airport and at the exits to Bali at Gilimanuk and Ketapang Ports and other exits in Bali,” said AKBP Teguh.

Based on temporary statements from witnesses and the perpetrators, said the Badung Police Chief, the perpetrators and victims did not know each other. Based on immigration records, the victim Turan Mehmet entered Bali on December 7, 2023 using a visa on arrival as a tourist for a vacation.

Meanwhile, the perpetrator entered Bali on December 12, 2023 also using a visa on arrival for tourism purposes. Head of Intelligence and Immigration Enforcement Ngurah Rai Gilang added that the perpetrator’s travel documents when he came on vacation in Indonesia were declared complete and in accordance with procedures.

Gilang denied that there was a lapse in the immigration system because the criminal incident only occurred while he was in Bali. Moreover, the perpetrator had documents to travel to Indonesia.

“In principle, we have carried out surveillance at the airport, the person concerned also used a visa on arrival for tourism purposes, which must have been equipped with tourist documents,” he said during a press conference at the Badung Police Headquarters, Tuesday.

Based on immigration data, he continued, the alleged perpetrator Sicairos Valdes Roberto is still in Indonesian territory.

“Until now, he has still been detected in Indonesian territory. It has been locked for domestic and international areas,” he said.

Previously, a Turkish citizen Turan Mehmet was seriously injured after being shot by four Mexican nationals at the Palm House Villa in Mengwi, Badung, Bali, Tuesday, January 23 at around 01.18 WITA.

The four perpetrators targeted Turan Mehmet and his three friends who were sitting in the villa area. The victim Turan Mehmet was injured after being shot with a firearm, while the other three residents managed to escape and save themselves.

As a result of the gunshots, the victim suffered two gunshot wounds to the front of the stomach that penetrated the right side and a shot from the left arm that penetrated the left back chest.

The three perpetrators were finally arrested on Saturday, January 27 at around 08.00 WITA in Jimbaran, South Kuta, Badung, Bali. The arrest of the perpetrators by the Badung Police Criminal Investigation Unit together with a team from the Criminal Investigation Directorate of the National Police, the Criminal Investigation Directorate of the Bali Police, the Mengwi Police, and the Mobile Brigade Corps of the Bali Police.
